Cancellation Protection Scheme

Having to cancel a holiday is extremely disappointing, but losing the payments you have already made, or are contractually due to make, is an additional blow.

Cottage in the Country & Cottage Holidays operate a Cancellation Protection Scheme. It is essential to take coverage at the time of booking, Rental payment only less a £30.00 + VAT administration charge is refunded in the event of cancellation due to:
  • Death, serious illness or injury (certified in all cases by a medical practitioner), summons for jury service or witness call of the person making the booking or any member of the party listed on the booking form at the time of booking.
  • Death, serious illness or injury (certified in all cases by a medical practitioner) of the spouse/partner, parent, step-parent, parent-in-law, brother, sister, children or close business associate of the person making the booking or any member of the party listed on the booking form at the time of booking.
  • Redundancy of the person making the booking or spouse providing that they qualify for payment under the Employment Rights Act 1996.
  • The home of the person making the booking being rendered uninhabitable because of fire, storm, flood, subsidence or malicious damage.
The Scheme does not cover:
  • Illness insufficiently serious to prevent the person taking the holiday, or illness known at the time of booking, nor does it cover cancellations arising from pregnancy.
  • Persons over 75 years of age at the time of booking.
The Scheme is subject to the War exclusion cause.

All cancellations must be notified in writing to Cottage in the Country within seven days of the event causing cancellation (or within 24 hours if during the final two weeks prior to the holiday date).

Provided the terms of the Scheme are met in full the rental will be refunded less an administrative charge of £30.00 + VAT, the Scheme premium and the booking fee. Coverage commences on the date of booking confirmation and terminates on the day the holiday begins. This scheme only covers full cancellation. It does not cover partial refund. If you choose not to join the Scheme and you subsequently have to cancel your holiday, you will be liable to pay the whole of the rental amount. (Should the cancellation be for reasons not covered by the Scheme, the booking is forfeit and the balance still payable on the due date). Cottage in the Country will, on receipt of written confirmation, immediately endeavour to re-let the property and if successful, will refund the balance less any expenses incurred in reletting. Such expenses shall be at the discretion of Cottage in the Country.

CANCELLATION PROTECTION FEES

The fees are based on the total rental value of the property.
£20.00 for a sum covered up to £200 rental plus
£5 for each additional £100 or part thereof
(minimum fee £20, maximum £55 per booking. Maximum cover £850).
